We arrive on the highway towards the city of Ascoli Piceno, the sky black and heavy with rain. I can clearly sea ahead of me thunders and lightnings in fair abundance. Not a good perspective, but unavoidable. And to think that behind we have left the warmest summer day…
Arriving in Ascoli Piceno humidity was strong, we parked the car and started to wander, looking for the city centre, i.e. following other people that seemed to have tourist-ish faces. But the city looked empty, and I must admit that was quite peculiar.
We stopped by a bar in what seemed to be the main piazza and had some aperitivo and a glass of local wine, and noticed that people slowly started to appear and to re-populate what seemed like an abandoned place to us until few minutes before. In reality, as the bar owner told and showed us with a video from his mobile, a huge thunderstorm happened minutes before our arrival, so scary that forced everyone to run away fast and look for a shelter.
Anyway this surreal situation gifted me a unique sight of the town, that was at the very same time both moody and wet, both shy and incredibly beautiful.
