Let it snow!
I wandered quietly throught the streets of Milan which were shiny white and bright of the brightest colours. All the snow lowered the usual city noises, leaving me with only the sound of my feet rhythmically immersing into and resurfacing from this soft milky fleece.
The day brought children playing snowball fights and adults enjoying the weather as they were children again, enthusiastically sharing this unusual landscape on their mobiles with their beloved ones, wherever they are.
I did the same, of course: was quick to grab my mobile camera and show the white surroundings to mum and dad’s marvel – as well as to their concern (“pay attention, as you may slip”).
For those who, like yours truly, were born and bred in the south of Italy, snow is always news, it never belonged to my life until my 20 something, when I moved to Milan and saw it for the very first time.
Fascinating to see the city with different spectacles, underneath such soft and harmless shield. It provided me with a nostalgic feeling of the good ol’ times, back to my older self and my older dreams.
