17.11.2025 at Unipol Arena, Casalecchio di Reno (Bo)
On November 17th in Bologna, Radiohead reminded me that live music, at its very best, is a form of human communion.
I kept thinking about that after reading what Nick Cave wrote after seeing them in London, when he described a Radiohead concert as a force that radiates goodness. Standing there in Bologna, surrounded by thousands of people breathing, listening and singing together, it was impossible not to feel exactly what he meant.
Radiohead don’t just play songs: they open a space where fragility is allowed, where complexity is not simplified, where beauty and unease coexist without apology. I was there with F, standing right in front of Jonny Greenwood: what an extraordinary privilege it was to watch him up close! To me, he is one of the most important and creative multi-instrumentalists of our time; it genuinely felt like witnessing a contemporary Mozart or Beethoven at work: restless, curious, endlessly inventive.
Thom Yorke’s unique voice floated, then cut straight through the arena. Even when they messed up “Paranoid Android” (an incredible moment!), briefly losing their way before restarting, it only reinforced the sense that this was living material, still exposed and alive.
And then, at a certain point, they started “Talk Show Host”, one of our favorite songs, and the last thing we ever expected to hear live, not being a classic crowd-pleaser. But hearing it that night felt unreal, and we were genuinely thrilled to be there for it.
Nick Cave wrote that he was stunned by watching a Radiohead audience, people crying, holding each other, completely absorbed by the music, and that it felt almost spiritual. I completely agree. It felt exactly like that: thousands of strangers momentarily aligned in an experience that recalibrated their emotional compass, where music became pure connection.
If this is what Nick Cave meant by a concert that “radiates goodness”, then yes: I couldn’t agree more.
