(Detail of my parents’ bookshelf)
Last Christmas I received a Kindle ebook, which I especially loved because I usually spend more than 2 hours for my daily commuting so I definitely prefer reading than wasting time scrolling my mobile.
As a general and personal reading rule I alternate a nonfiction book with a fiction one, simply because I would otherwise read essays only, but that rule I didn’t observe…
Here’s what I read in 2023:
- La ragazza con la Leica by Helena Janeczek
- Diario degli errori by Ennio Flaiano
- Almanacco del giorno prima by Chiara Valerio
- L’ordine del tempo by Carlo Rovelli
- Middle England by Jonathan Come
- Il lato fresco del cuscino by Vittorio Zucconi
- La manomissione delle parole by Gianrico Caro figlio
- L’arte di viaggiare by Alain de Botton
- Intelligenza emotiva by Daniel Goleman
- Pensieri oziosi di un ozioso per una vacanza oziosa by Jerome K. Jerome
- Tutta la stanchezza del mondo by Enrica Tesio
My personal best two of 2023 are:
“Almanacco del giorno prima” has been my fave fiction book: I somehow “felt”the obsessions of the main character but mostly adored the unexpected ending of the book
“L’arte di Viaggare” has been my best-loved nonfiction book: a philosophical take on the mundane act of travelling, using an unconventional perspective of the unusual connection with artists and thinkers of different eras you’d never relate to otherwise
